VERONA

This duplex penthouse renovation is for clients who were moving from their large Colonial home and want a very modern, open home. They were attracted to the walls of glass and soaring ceilings in the living room of this condo penthouse, and they were steadfast in their desire for a clutter free, minimalist living environment. Their previous home was full of decorative furniture and objects- they left it all behind.

The clients asked me to work with them to select all of the furnishings- a great opportunity to bring a cohesive vision to the entire project.

The screen on the right is opposite the entry door and provides a visual stop before entering the double height living area. Mirrored wall behind the screen adds depth and mystery to this element.
White and minimalism rule. Only the marble backsplash and island panel provide subtle contrast.
Delicate Moooi chandeliers over the dining table add contrast to the hard edges of the architecture.
The new stair winds its way up to the second floor.
This view highlights both the long views through the space as well as the gleam of the white terrazzo flooring.
The Master Bedroom maintains the minimalist feel, but softer tones combine with the white. Wood flooring and upholstered wall bring warmth.

The bathroom comes back to white. Slabs of quartz line the walls and floor. Acid etched mirror cabinets add a soft glow in contrast to the real mirror over the sinks.
Additional bathroom at the second floor.
A guest bath on the first floor goes to (almost) black. The walls are thin sheets of slate, and with the walnut vanity add an unexpected departure from all the white outside.
The powder room also takes a darker approach. Silver leaf backed glass mosaic, glass vanity top, and some dramatic lighting.
The office on the second floor overlooks the double height living room. Custom built in cabinets provide ample hidden storage to maintain the minimal look.
Existing First Floor

Proposed First Level Plan

The kitchen and dining room have both been opened up to the living room. A new stair changes the orientation of the original awkward layout.

Existing Second Floor.

Proposed Second Floor Plan

The office wall is being removed and a glass railing will provide complete openness to the double height living room.
Another opening is being created at the end of the dressing room hall, also overlooking the living room.
