As soon as we bought our mid century modern dream home, we reached out to Gary after reading a ton of glowing reviews about him. After meeting and walking through the home, we knew our search was over and Gary was the first architect we interviewed.

My husband and I are very particular and we believed Gary would be exactly who we needed by our side. We did a major renovation on our home that included opening up our kitchen space, adding closets and rearranging a bathroom. We were very happy with Gary’s drawings and overall execution of our project. From the moment we started our project, Gary had a ton of ideas and was an expert in modern design.

Gary is professional, punctual and genuinely a great person to work with. He’s extremely knowledgeable and really helped point us in the right direction. Gary was always available when we needed him and was flexible and we have three young kids so that was a plus! We always felt comfortable reaching out to Gary and we know that although our project is over, he’s still there if we need him- that is hard to find!

When we walk into our home every day, we are so so happy and proud of all the work that was done- we have Gary to thank for all of his help. Stop your search, Gary is a gem!

I truly believe that the architect is the storyteller, who connects all the dots together so it was important for us to hire an architect who understood our needs for the space and our aesthetic. We worked with Gary on an extensive renovation of our house to come up with the design for an open floor plan, modern home that functioned well for the family of four. Gary was not only attentive and listened to us, but made some great recommendations about how to maximize the space. His design sensibility is great and attention to detail is outstanding. We would (and do) always recommend Gary to anyone about to embark on a design project.

As a general contractor the eventual success of the project really lies in the hands of the architect. My first project with Gary was the my first experience with an architect this thorough. He was truly invested in every aspect of the project and was willing to discuss details directly with my subcontractors. His understanding of the project as a whole goes well beyond the design and he includes details in his plans that guide the contractor to a finished product that will last. I recommend him to all my clients who are looking for a tasteful modern design and I look forward to working with him again.

“My wife and I hired Gary in 2014 to design and manage a major renovation of the kitchen and family room in our 100+ year old home in Montclair, NJ. We interviewed many architects and Gary was the only one who truly understood our desire to incorporate a very modern, Scandinavian design into our home without sacrificing many of the great details of an older house. He also introduced us to many new and unique materials, like resin, that we would have never considered without his guidance. While implementing his design and thoughts Gary still respected our ideas and wishes. An added benefit was his connections to many great suppliers and contractors.”

“We did a major renovation of our kitchen, dining room, family room, two bathrooms, and added a screened-in porch. We couldn’t be happier with the results. From the beginning we knew we wanted an architect who would not only conceptualize the space and provide architectural plans, but would also guide us in choosing materials and supervise construction. Gary Rosard’s design work is impeccable. The attention to detail in architectural renderings was very impressive. We were not clients who wanted to spend a lot of time shopping for materials. He presented us with samples he had selected and we loved his choices. He and his associate, Megan Cudia, were very responsive throughout the entire process and led us to a wonderful contractor. We will definitely consult with Gary on future projects and recommend him with enthusiasm.”

“We looked at a variety of architects in preparation for our major addition. It was clearly evident after our first meeting that Gary’s aesthetic is what we were looking for to build our modern space. We commissioned Gary with coming up with a multi phase plan that could be executed over time. Gary met with us several times to discuss what we wanted out of this space even before showing us any renditions. He was very patient and diligent in answering all of our questions. The design he came up with was modern, open and more importantly blended in perfectly with existing house and the natural surrounding. We were impressed with his attention to detail in his design and site visits. He was very calm, understanding and professional through the numerous changes we requested. What became evident is that he is not only a great architect but also has a keen sense of interior design. Another great benefit of using Gary is the numerous connections and contractors we were able to use. I would highly recommend Gary on any project, big or small.”

“I have worked with Gary Rosard Architect, on two separate apartments, the first in 1999, and the second in 2006-7. He did the first one so well that I did not even consider another architect for the second. Both were ‘gut’ renovations, costing in excess of $100,000 each, although each was different from the other in spirit, period, and layout. In both cases, Gary conceptualized the project from beginning to end, drew up all the requisite drafts, drawings, and permits, and shepherded the projects to completion, within budget and on deadline. Gary’s exceptional people skills and listening skills enabled him to work with me as the client, and with a variety of building management people and contractors, with ease and grace, resulting in goodwill that translated into excellent work. Over and over, Gary came up with creative solutions to the inevitable challenges that arose, always considering my personal tastes and preferences. I have recommended him without reservation to my friends and colleagues, who have also used his services to great satisfaction. I would use him again in a heartbeat.”

“If you are looking for an architect with unparalleled attention to detail and the patience of a Jedi knight, you really cannot do better than Gary Rosard. We hired his firm in the fall of 2018 to help us renovate a recently purchased mid-century modern home that was in need of some drastic updating to its kitchen, bathrooms and layout. Gary was always responsive, always thorough and always wanting to get the job done to perfection. Most importantly, he always listened to us and worked to understand exactly what our needs were. After understanding what we wanted, he was a tireless advocate on our behalf (w/tradespeople, subcontractors, etc). We cannot recommend Gary highly enough.”

“We began working with Gary before we made a bid on a new home. He helped us envision what we wanted it to be and saw us through from potential to completion. His plans were fantastic – both the bathroom and kitchen he designed were entirely new spaces in the house, but they seemed as though they should always have been there. He connected us with an amazing contractor who did beautiful work, which Gary helped see through. He also helped us select all of the materials and appliances and guided us through something we weren’t interested in immersing ourselves in. All of his choices reflected our taste, but we made them quickly together, which was exactly how we wanted it. It was a great experience and just six months after purchasing the new house, it’s everything we ever wanted it to be. If we have more projects to do in the future, we will contact Gary again.”

“Gary helped us renovate the exterior of our home last year and we were thrilled with the results. Our house needed a serious makeover and Gary was able to completely transform and modernize our home while staying within our agreed upon budget.

Not only does Gary have an amazing design sensibility, but he is also a pleasure to work with. He delivered plans on time, worked well with contractors and followed through. I highly recommend him!”

“We had a wonderful experience working with Gary Rosard and team. We have a 1926 Tudor and wanted to add a first floor powder room and updated kitchen. He was the only architect who listened to our needs and helped us work with the integrity of the house. He has a deep respect and understanding for these old houses and how to make them functional for a modern family. Someone always picked up the phone to help us and the project moved along on the time frame Gary outlined for us from the beginning. We would recommend and use him again.”

AMY FENG

“The first question Gary asked me is “what do you want your guests feel when they come to your house.” I know I found the right architect as he cares the artistic side of his work. I had worked 6 months with another architect before I found Gary. Gary knew exactly what I want for the project only after a few minutes talk. Visiting his projects convinced me that he is the right one as his works speak very high on his design. So I fired the other one and worked with him, which was the turning point of my project. We rebuilt our house and turned this 1950 split level to a modern one inside and out. Gary not only did architecture design, but also interior design. I cannot say enough good things about him, easy communication, efficient work processing, great taste, good understanding of clients’ needs, thoughtful planning on budget and schedule, and honest pricing. He took the greatest pride and care in our project, nurtured it as if it was his own and demonstrated such professionalism and confidence that cannot be found elsewhere. He made my project so much easier than I thought. What almost seemed like an impossible task was turned into possible by him. “

“Gary is a very talented architect. I highly recommend him and would ask his help on any future project without hesitation. He listens really well to his client, incorporates their wishes while also coming up with alternatives that build on them to make the overall result stunning. He worked very well with our contractor, so the journey throughout was one of a three-way partnership. He is fair, diplomatic and sensitive in his dealings with all parties.

I would rate him 4 1/2 stars (he benefits from there being no 1/2 star option) for two reasons. First, his company was going through growing pains when our project was at its peak architectural need, resulting in a longer duration (1-2 months) than we feel we were led to believe initially. Second, the cost of the project ended up being around 75% more expensive than the (admittedly loose, ‘gut-feel’) ball park figure we initially discussed with Gary. Trouble is, when you’ve seen a glimpse of what might be, it’s hard to reign back scope if there’s any way at all to turn the idea into reality. I still can’t quite believe the end result. He (and our contractor) made a home from heaven for us and we love it.!”

“When we decided to renovate our old house, we interviewed several architects and gary was a breath of fresh air. When we described the modern design features we wanted, the other architects simply didn’t get it. Gary was the only one who listened carefully and ensured that we could get what we envisioned. My husband and I spent several months trying to decide on the perfect design and Gary was patient, helpful and supportive throughout the whole process. Despite numerous changes and updates, he worked with us calmly and was able to turn around requests and suggestions quickly. He always provided valuable advice and made himself available whenever we had any questions or concerns. It was fun learning about all the various options in the design process and picking out the materials with him. We are very happy with the end result! We highly recommend Gary.”

RANDY RABNEY

“We hired Gary Rosard as an architect and designer for a gut renovation of our kitchen that included removal of a wall and also to help with some redesign of the front of our house. We had just moved into a ranch home that was built in 1951 and we wanted to do some updating. We are incredibly happy with the end result and gary was a pleasure throughout the entire process. He guided us in choosing materials quickly and easily because he is experienced and also listened to what we wanted for our home. I also think that he has great taste. We wanted a contemporary kitchen and were concerned that it could turn out feeling cold. Gary helped us choose materials and colors that allowed us to have the contemporary look we wanted and still have the warmth we wanted too. I would definitely recommend him and I would definitely work with him again.”

“We had the pleasure of working with Gary Rosard over the course of a year we renovated and expanded our home. Gary has an incredible aesthetic and vision and his attention to detail took our home renovation to a new level. He spent a lot of time with us to ensure we were happy at every phase of the project. He is incredibly talented and we highly recommend him.”

“We hired Gary for building our home which had elements of a knock down/gut renovation/new construction all rolled into one project. When we started the project, we were sure that we wanted a contemporary/modern home but could not describe what elements combine to make a home a modern home. We visited one of Gary’s earlier projects and it was apparent as soon as we walked in that his was the design aesthetic we were seeking. We were relieved at that point to have found the expert that would deliver our dream home. Sure enough, the home is everything we wanted and more with an overall appeal that makes people stop and stare as they pass by. The money spent was directed exactly where needed – comfort, space, style, functionality, light, durability, etc. And not into unnecessary embellishments that added nothing to the living experience. Moreover, there is a certain balance that Gary found with the wooded lot which makes the house feel like it always belonged there. Working with Gary made the total experience of building our house an absolute pleasure as we were reassured very quickly into the project that the outcome would be something special. I would recommend Gary without hesitation to anyone considering a new construction or a renovation project.”

“Mr. Rosard did two complete house renovations for me. In july 2011, he designed and supervised a gut renovation of an 1874 urban farmhouse which included reconfiguration of the floor plan to incorporate an open plan kitchen, living, and dining room, new bathroom and laundry room, complete structural reinforcement of the house, and design of finishes and restoration of period moldings, windows and other trim. The modernization of the house was achieved without compromising original features. He worked with a structural engineer to completely rebuild the structural components. He will be designing the restoration of the barn structure in the near future. It is masterfully done. In another home I owned, Mr. Rosard worked within the footprint of the home and renovated the kitchen, bathrooms, raised an attic dormer for a master bedroom bathroom addition, and opened a stairway. I put the first home on the market to buy the second. It sold in four days with five offers over asking. The new owners were just relocated and the home again sold in record breaking time. His work is superb. He is responsible and supervises every step. He is also personable and easy to work with. He provided me with the contractor referrals which worked out beautifully and was cost effective.”

“Gary rosard was a complete pleasure to work with from start to finish of the two year process renovating our landmarked prewar new york co-op that involved the combination of two apartments. We did a total renovation including central air conditioning, new floors throughout, two bathrooms, a large completely redesigned and reimagined kitchen including laundry cedar closet and storage area using every available inch of space, new landmark approved windows, cabinetry design in master bedroom, study, living room and dining room, foyer ceiling redesigned to conceal a/c ductwork with elegant moulding, the use of stone finishes in virtually every room, and the creation of many design features to reflects the original art deco beauty of our apartment.

Gary as well as other architects, had been referred by our wonderful contractor. We interviewed others, but we knew from our first meeting that gary was the person we wanted to work with and we were right!

He carefully listened to everything we wanted to achieve and with his architectural expertise and excellent taste he tackled the challenges of helping us to reach our goals with exacting and imaginative design, budgeting, research, and wonderful advice. We shopped together in every appropriate showroom and stone yard for materials and finishes used throughout the apartment. He was an excellent communicator and always available to us to help with each decision and to help successfully solve any inevitable bump in the road along the way of our extensive and intricate project.

Gary helped us create a truly beautiful space which comfortably serves to function efficiently in today’s world while maintaining the character and integrity of our 1920’s-1930’s apartment. Photos are available to view on his website.”

“My husband and I first started working with Gary in March of 2012. We live in a historic district in Millburn, New Jersey and wanted to rebuild our house for our family of 5, but in order to do so, we needed approval from the historic preservation commission. The commission demanded that our rebuild would need to match the traditional character of the neighborhood in which we lived, but our taste is decidedly modern. Furthermore, the commission was intent on using our project as a benchmark for other rebuilds to follow, which set an incredibly high bar. Gary understood that challenge, and was able to design a contemporary house that satisfied our modern aesthetics while blending seamlessly into a historic neighborhood characterized by arts and crafts and Tudor styles of the early 1900s.

His approach to design was practical. He took the time to understand and probe our living habits and routines, and made sure that the house would meet our lifestyle needs. All the rooms and layout he designed for us were well-proportioned, functional with a natural and organic flow. Gary also took care to optimize the lighting so that the house felt warm and bright year round. We have been living in our new house for almost a year, and we couldn’t be happier.

Gary definitely has a strong design aesthetic that is inimitable, and he designed a uniquely beautiful house that is timeless and worthy of future preservation in a historic town. We feel fortunate to have worked with Gary on our home, and we look forward to enjoying the house in the years to come.”

“Gary guided us through a gut renovation of an entire house. We were looking for a comfortable modern style home that fit in with our more traditional neighborhood. He was with us from start to finish. He helped us select a property, created the design and the plans. Advised us on decor and accessories and checked in with the builders throughout the project to make sure work was being done properly and helping to troubleshoot issues that arose. Gary was an absolute pleasure to work with. He listened carefully to all of our needs and incorporated our feedback throughout the project. His taste is impeccable and his designs were creative and sleek. He made what could have been an overwhelming project, feel fun and manageable. We are thrilled with the final project and would recommend him without reservation!”

JOHN LANG

“We hired Gary on two occasions, in 2005 and 2012. The first was when we initially bought a 1957 mid-century modern ranch home in south orange. The home was in terrible shape as the original owner, from whom we bought it, had quit caring for the home. It needed a major renovation in about 50% of the home, if not more. Gary managed the project from start to finish for us. He did the drawings, found the contractor and oversaw the renovation from start to finish. This included a total renovation of the kitchen, three bathrooms, fireplace and some of the living room, laundry room/playroom, “au pair” bedroom conversion to extend the den/tv room and bar area, and major renovation of a transition to a patio. It was a huge project and took several months…”
